Leicester City have been linked with a number of players since Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the club.

The Dutchman has plenty of experience as a player and manager, with Ruud van Nistelrooy delivering an exciting Leicester City transfer update last week, hinting he could use his connections to strengthen his new side.

PSV Enivoden could have players for the Foxes to poach after their new boss enjoyed a very fruitful 2022/23 season with them, winning two domestic cups.

Elsewhere, Van Nistelrooy has contacted Manchester United to sign two players on loan in January, according to reports last month.

Sat 19th in the Premier League, Leicester fans will no doubt be desperate to see their team make a signing or two as soon as possible.

However, one player linked with the club following Ruud’s arrival is now seemingly heading elsewhere this winter.

Leicester City out of race for Ezechiel Banzuzi

Back in December, reports from the Netherlands claimed that Leicester were interested in Ezechiel Banzuzi, who was said to have a price tag of around £12m.

The 19-year-old has played 21 times in 2024/25 so far, scoring two and assisting five in all competitions.

Banzuzi is currently on the books of Leicester’s sister club OH Leuven, which may have led some fans to believe a transfer was very likely.

Now, however, Voetbal International, who originally reported on the Midlands outfit being interested in the teenager, have provided a fresh update on the situation.

And they claim AS Monaco are now closing in on a deal for the midfielder, with Leicester unable to compete with the Ligue 1 side.

West Ham United are also thought to still have an interest in the player but Monaco are approaching an agreement.

Other Leicester City transfer targets

While missing out on Banzuzi is a blow, he is a central midfielder by trade – a position Leicester have a lot of options in already.

Instead, they should be focusing on signing a defender, and on this front, there have been plenty of links.

Leicester are interested in Thomas Kristensen of Udinese, with the 6ft 6 stopper surely going to be a great addition to Van Nistelrooy’s backline if a deal can be pulled off.

Elsewhere, the Foxes have been linked with Abdukodir Khusanov of RC Lens but are facing competition from Manchester City for the centre-back.

On a less positive note, target Ben Godfrey could join Ipswich Town on loan from Atalanta BC after initially being linked to the Midlands outfit.
