Former Leicester City player issues three-word verdict on Steve Cooper sacking, it’s hard to argue

Leicester City have confirmed that they have decided to sack Steve Cooper on Sunday.

The 46-year-old took charge of Leicester City over the summer, replacing Enzo Maresca in the dugout at the King Power Stadium.

Maresca secured the Foxes promotion from the Championship in 2023/24 while playing an exciting brand of attacking football.

However, it is fair to say things have not gone as well for the club in the current campaign and Leicester have now sacked Steve Cooper.

Leicester’s defensive record is worrying and this, combined with their position in the Premier League table, had already seen fans make their feelings on Cooper clear.

Now, Leicester have confirmed on Sunday, November 23rd, that they have parted company with the former Nottingham Forest boss.

Former Leicester City player Matt Piper issues verdict on Steve Cooper sacking

The decision to sack Cooper comes just over 24 hours after Leicester were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Said defeat saw the Midlands outfit slip down to 16th in the league table, just two points above the relegation zone.

Now, taking to X/Twitter, ex-Leicester player Matt Piper, who lined out for the club for two years between 2000-2002, has offered a three-word verdict on the call, simply stating: “The right decision.”

Given their position in the table and the fact fans had already turned on Cooper, it is hard to argue with Piper’s verdict.

Who will replace Steve Cooper as Leicester City manager

With news of Cooper’s departure still very fresh, we don’t yet have a clear idea of who will replace him at the King Power.

However, Graham Potter and Ruud Van Nistelrooy were linked with Leicester prior to the Englishman leaving the club.

Van Nistelrooy, who beat Leicester 5-2 and 3-0 while in temporary charge of Manchester United, is now available after leaving Old Trafford recently.

As for Potter, he has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in 2023 and would bring a host of experience and a more appealing style of play to Leicester.
