Former Leicester manager accuses club of ‘entitlement’ after Steve Cooper sacking

A former Leicester City manager has accused the club of being “entitled” after deciding to sack Steve Cooper.

Leicester dismissed Cooper last weekend following a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.

The loss was the 44-year-old’s seventh as manager of the Foxes and he left the club with just four wins from 14 games and the East Midlanders one place above the relegation zone.

There has been mixed reaction with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards questioning Cooper’s sacking while plenty of others believe it was the right call.

However, one person that is in agreement with Shearer, Richards and others is an iconic former Foxes boss.

Former Leicester manager Martin O’Neil slams Steve Cooper decision

Martin O’Neil is a well-loved figure in the East Midlands having won two League Cup titles with the Foxes during his time at the club.

But while O’Neil fondly remembers his days at Leicester City, he believes that the atmosphere has changed a lot and feels the club have become a victim of their own success.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: “Since 2016 things at Leicester have changed.

“They won the Premier League, FA Cup. Then go down and [Enzo] Maresca brings them up. Then they weren’t happy with Steve.

“I shouldn’t say this, I loved my time there, but there is a sense of entitlement there.”

When will Leicester City appoint new manager?

The Foxes are close to finding Cooper’s replacement with Leicester expected to announce Ruud van Nistelrooy imminently.

Van Nistelrooy is available after leaving Manchester United following Erik ten Hag’s sacking and is highly-rated in the managerial circle.

Leicester hoped to have an appointment in place by Saturday for their trip to Brentford.

Reports claimed that the 48-year-old could be announced today (Thursday 28 November), however, it now looks more likely that he will be confirmed on Friday.
