The transfer window has slammed shut on Leicester City and now Ruud van Nistelrooy has just been handed the small matter of keeping his side in the Premier League.

Leicester City fans were made to watch a frustrating window unfold as only one signing was made when Ruud van Nistelrooy wanted four additions.

Woyo Coulibaly’s arrival from Parma solved their right-back issue but other positions have been neglected, with the Leicester owner breaking a key promise to Van Nistelrooy.

It’s left supporters with little optimism for the remainder of the season as they stare down the barrel of relegation, and many have now had enough with how the club is being run.

So, with all that said, here’s a news round-up for Leicester fans to digest.

Leicester’s chairman was playing polo on transfer deadline day

Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has come under fire from the fanbase due to a lack of transfers completed by Leicester this month.

It led to fears that Van Nistelrooy could quit Leicester due to their failures in the window, with the Dutchman growing increasingly frustrated.

But during a time of desperation for the Foxes on transfer deadline day, instead of spending his time on the run with footballing agents, ‘Khun Top’ spent the final day of the window playing Polo for King Power in Thailand.

Srivaddhanaprabha is an avid player and has previously played with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William. However, when the club needed him most, he was nowhere to be seen.

How Tom Cannon felt about being sold to Sheffield United

While there was only one incoming during the window, there were plenty of outgoings from the King Power Stadium, including striker Tom Cannon.

Sheffield United signed Cannon for £10m while also loaning in Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury till the end of the season.

Cannon was torn into by Sheffield United fans after his uninspiring debut for the Blades against Hull City late last month.

However, the Republic of Ireland striker was always looking to make the move, with it claimed that he ‘wanted to move on to further his career by gaining more game time’.

Leicester City are the Premier League’s lowest spenders across the last five seasons

Leicester’s lack of spending in the January transfer window isn’t the only time isn’t the only time the Foxes haven’t opened the chequebook.

In fact, data suggests they are the Premier League’s lowest spenders across the last five seasons, accruing just £258 million in transfer fees since 2020/21.

Premier League’s lowest spenders from 2020/21 to 2024/25
Leicester City – £258 million
Brentford – £264 million
Fulham – £273 million
Southampton £300 million
Everton – £302 million

It makes for stark reading that Leicester have spent the least of their divisional rivals, with even fellow strugglers Everton and Southampton totalling less in transfer fees.
