Leicester City sold Tom Cannon to Sheffield United this week and he has now made his debut for the Blades.

The Tom Cannon transfer saga is one that left Leicester City fans infuriated at their own club – not for the first time this season.

The striker was loaned to Stoke City over the summer, going on to find the back of the net on nine occasions for the Potters in the Championship.

Leicester then recalled Cannon from Stoke earlier this month, with speculation over his long-term future then mounting.

Sunderland were linked to the forward but it was confirmed on Thursday that Sheffield United agreed a £10m deal with the Foxes for the number nine.

He has now made his first appearance since departing the King Power Stadium and it didn’t go great.

Tom Cannon slammed on first appearance following Leicester City exit

Sheffield United are vying for automatic promotion from the Championship and faced off with a struggling Hull City on Friday night.

The Blades were dealt a rather shocking 3-0 defeat by the Tigers on the night, however, with Cannon playing the full 90 minutes.

It wasn’t a great debut for the hitman, and fans have now taken to social media to make their feelings clear.

One fan joked: “Can’t wait to see Tom Cannon make his debut. Tonight must have been a competition winner.”

A second added: “£10 million for Tom Cannon,” followed by several laughing emojis.

“I’m probably going to look like an idiot when I jinx this. But this Tom Cannon performance has been scary. How was there a bidding war for him,” a third wrote.

“Tom Cannon worth every penny,” another fan sarcastically commented.

A fifth supporter simply stated: “Tom Cannon sucks,” while another wrote: “He did nothing all game, what a bargain Wilder.”

Tom Cannon stats for Sheffield United vs Hull City

Fans were left disappointed by his sale, but Ruud van Nistelrooy hinted Cannon’s exit could lead to signings in the remainder of the winter window when speaking this week.

And though it’s never nice to see a player struggling, Leicester supporters are probably slightly pleased that he isn’t instantly dominating in the Championship while they struggle for goals in the top flight.

He’s likely to improve and score more goals in the remainder of 2024/25 but his stats from Friday don’t make for great reading.

As per Sofascore, Cannon didn’t manage a shot on target, did not attempt a single dribble, had 20 touches, only completed five passes, lost possession seven times, and only won 50 percent of his aerial duels.
