Leicester City have found a replacement for Steve Cooper less than a week after sacking him.

It took longer than expected but Leicester City have confirmed Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager.

The Dutch-born boss has previously spent time in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindvohen where he won two cups in one campaign.

More recently, he took brief charge of Manchester United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

The Midlands club are back in Premier League action this weekend but Van Nistelrooy will not take charge of Brentford vs Leicester.

Instead, Ben Dawson will help the team out while the former Red Devils watches on in the stadium.

Leicester go into the game sat 16th in the Premier League table having picked up just two wins all term.

Ruud van Nistelrooy sends message to Leicester City fans

After his appointment was finally confirmed, Dawson sent a clear demand to Van Nistelrooy, outlining exactly what he wants from his new boss.

Dawson is not the only one to react to the news, however, with Leicester fans making their feelings on Van Nistelrooy clear via social media.

Now, the man himself has uttered his first-ever words as Foxes boss, sending a message to the Leicester faithful when doing so.

He said: “I’m proud, I’m excited. Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive.

“I’m excited to start and to get to know everyone and give everything I can for the Football Club.”

Ruud van Nistelrooy first job at Leicester City is clear

While the feeling at the King Power is now a positive one, the days ahead are going to be littered with problems.

Van Nistelrooy has been sent a Leicester warning by an ex-Premier League CEO amid the club’s current sponsorship problems and how they could impact PSR.

The Foxes need to strengthen in the January transfer window as well, especially given the lack of options up front.

It’s become obvious who Van Nistelrooy’s first signing at Leicester should be, but with the winter window still not open, the focus must be on turning the club’s form around and, in particular, improving their defence.

Gary Lineker is worried about the Foxes and their inability to not leak goals. They have shipped the joint-third most in the top flight going into the weekend – a pressing issue their new boss must address quickly.
