Time is ticking for Leicester City as the transfer window reaches the final straight for the Foxes.

Leicester want five players this month but that has proved to be a difficult task to complete.

A combination of PSR fears and slow activity from the club mean that Woyo Coulibably for £3m is the only purchase so far.

This isn’t ideal for a side embroiled in a relegation dogfight and two points from safety at present.

To help with signings new players, Leicester have taken out a bank loan to boost the transfer kitty but, as fans grow frustrated, it appears that Ruud van Nistelrooy is also getting concerned.

Ruud van Nistelrooy unhappy with Leicester’s transfer activity

Van Nistelrooy knew that this Leicester squad would require new, better players to aid the fight to secure their Premier League status.

As well as Coulibaly joining, four loan players have returned to Leicester which simply won’t be enough for the relegation battle.

When the Dutchman joined in November, he was promised by the club’s owners that he would have money to spend in January.

Whilst that may still change, the Foxes have only spent £3m this month and according to The Sun, Van Nistelrooy is frustrated by the lack of backing in the market.

Behind the scenes there may be frustration and disappointment from Van Nistelrooy towards Leicester’s transfer – or lack of – business this month but if he is, he’s not showing it in person, even if some reports claimed that the Dutchman could leave the Foxes if he wasn’t backed.

After the Fulham defeat, Van Nistelrooy has tried to remain positive on the transfer situation, pointing to the experience of the squad.

He said: “You could look at the squad and you know which players were involved in the relegation two years ago.

“It’s not only in the back four. It’s in the middle of the pitch, up front, and the goalies as well.

“There’s a fair bit of players who lived that situation and who knows what it’s about, and what the consequences are.”
