Steve Cooper told he actually made one ‘really clever’ signing at Leicester City this summer

Leicester City were far from their their best against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

It was a tough night for Steve Cooper, who is now suspended for Leicester City’s game with Ipswich Town this weekend.

The Foxes started off ok but were behind after just 15 minutes after Casemiro scored from outside the box.

James Justin was at fault for four Manchester United goals on October 30th and his continued inclusion in the starting line-up is pretty baffling.

Cooper hit out at the linesman versus Man Utd but even he cannot really blame the poor officiating for just how bad his side were defensively on the night.

Their attack was slightly better at Old Trafford, though the Leicester manager will be concerned about Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Jordan Ayew named ‘really clever’ Leicester City summer signing

On a more positive note, Bilal El Khannouss was a shining light for Leicester against Manchester United, with the midfielder scoring his first goal for the club.

As well as El Khannouss, another summer signing earned high praise during the clash at Old Trafford.

Jordan Ayew started up front in place of Jamie Vardy and though he did not score, he performed fairly well.

Speaking live on Sky Sports commentary during the game, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk was full of praise for Ayew and labelled him a ‘really clever’ signing.

She said: “I think Ayew has actually been a really clever signing for Leicester.

“I think initially maybe a few raised eyebrows but you think about the experience he’s got in the Premier League. He’s already popped up with a few important goals. He works ever so hard for the team as well.”

Jordan Ayew giving Steve Cooper selection problem

While Sweetman-Kirk gave a glowing verdict of Ayew, Cooper is struggling to get the best out of the former Crystal Palace man.

With Vardy Leicester’s primary number nine, the 33-year-old has been used in a number of positions since his move to the King Power.

Ayew has featured on both wings, as a number 10 and occasionally as a centre-forward, with it apparent he is best suited to being deployed as a striker.

But as Leicester only start one number nine, Ayew is struggling to earn regular minutes in that position and, in turn, fans are really yet to see the best of him.

His display against Manchester United may convince Cooper to finally give him a proper run up front but that would likely mean dropping Vardy.
