These Leicester fans are desperate for EFL ‘genius’ to replace Steve Cooper – it’s not Carlos Coberan

Leicester City are set for a chaotic week leading up the Brentford clash this weekend.

Following the abysmal defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, Leicester decided to sack manager Steve Cooper, ending his five-month reign in charge at King Power Stadium.

Cooper won just two of his 12 Premier League matches and leaves Leicester in 16th place, just a point above the relegation zone.

Graham Potter has been heavily linked with the vacancy, having previously held talks with City chiefs during the summer.

However, it’s understood that Potter isn’t likely to join Leicester as he continues to bide his time and wait for the right opportunity.

Such news has come as a huge disappointment to fans who earmarked the former Chelsea man as their number one target.

Though, attention has immediately turned to other options available and now a section of the Leicester fanbase are desperate for the club to appoint a manager who’s currently ripping it up in the Championship.

These Leicester fans want Michael Carrick to replace Steve Cooper

Leicester fans been out in force on X (formerly known as Twitter) over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts on who should replace Cooper.

Some think David Moyes is the man for the job whilst others have tipped West Bromwich Albion’s Carlos Coberan to take over.

However, Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is now becoming an increasingly popular candidate among City fans, who are really buying into the idea of his potential appointment.

@ashclarke10 said: “Obviously if we don’t go for Potter then he must not want the job, simple as that. Give me Michael Carrick, yes please.”

“I’ve long advocated for Michael Carrick. A young manager with massive potential. A background that demands respect. Apprenticeship done. Time for the big challenge,” @PaulWil81875490 added.

@Bondy_Roy posted: “Odds shortening for Carrick. Would prefer him to RVN, has done the hard yards with Boro with limited funds.”

@ProgressiveSoc8 said: “Would be more than happy with Carrick. Up and coming manager, has done well through difficult periods at Boro and they play good football. Think he’d also work wonders with the likes of Winks too.”

“Nobody talking about Michael Carrick? He is young and upcoming and plays the style of football Top and the players want,” @JasonClarkey83 said.

“Michael Carrick would be my pick if we can’t get Potter,” @Madderera added.

Michael Carrick has Middlesbrough flying in the Championship

Since Carrick arrived at Middlesbrough in October 2022, he’s established them as genuine promotion challengers, despite having a pretty limited squad.

The former Manchester United assistant, who’s been labelled a ‘genius’ (per Sky Football), has implemented a free-flowing brand of football at the Riverside and they’re the leading scorers in the Championship this season, netting a whopping 29 goals in just 16 games.

The Boro boss also places great emphasis on improving young talent – as evinced by Morgan Rogers and Cameron Archer, both of whom are now plying their trade in the Premier League.

So his potential arrival at Leicester would certainly be a major boost for the likes of Facundo Buonanotte and Bilal El Khannouss.
