Tom Cannon has posted to social media for the first time since being recalled by Leicester City on Wednesday.

Cannon was recalled by the Foxes after a stellar season with Stoke City, where he was their top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions.

Some Leicester fans want Cannon to stay but with Sunderland reportedly preparing a huge bid, as well as interest from Burnley, it seems likely that he will depart the King Power Stadium permanently.

Stoke fans raged at Leicester recalling Cannon and now, in his first post since leaving the Bet365 Stadium, Cannon has sent a message to the Potters fans.

The Championship club have had a less than positive season so far and are 19th in the table, despite the recent appointment of Mark Robins.

Without Cannon’s goals, it’s entirely plausible that they could’ve been in the bottom three so the frustration from Stoke fans towards Leicester’s decision is entirely reasonable.

As a token of his gratitude to the Staffordshire club, Cannon penned a thank you message to the club.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Stoke City for my time at the club,” the Republic of Ireland international stated.

“I loved playing in front of you fans and I wish the club nothing but the best for the future.”

Tom Cannon set for permanent transfer away from Leicester

He may have returned to Leicester for now, but Cannon won’t be in a rush to unpack his bags as a permanent transfer away seems inevitable.

Sheffield United were the original frontrunners for his signature but reports on Monday night claimed that Sunderland were going to launch a £13m bid for Cannon.

Further reports have suggested that Burnley are now also in the race and the Foxes could fetch a healthy fee thanks to a bidding war.
