Leicester City have approached several coaches in their attempt to find a new manager.

Steve Cooper was sacked by Leicester City on Sunday and the Foxes have been scrambling to find a replacement.

After being linked over the summer before Cooper was made head coach, Graham Potter has turned down the Leicester job.

Michael Carrick will not be joining the Foxes either after Middlesbrough ruled out any chance of a switch.

On Thursday, however, the Midlands outfit appear to have finally found their replacement for Cooper.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will be announced by Leicester on Thursday, according to reports.

The Dutchman is expected to be in the dugout ahead of the Foxes’ upcoming Premier League fixture against Brentford on Saturday.

Before the Dutchman was made the number one choice though, Leicester did approach another manager.

Leicester City approached David Moyes to replace Steve Cooper

The man in question is former West Ham United and Everton manager, David Moyes.

The Scotsman has been out of work since earlier this year after a second, ill-fated spell with the Hammers.

However, a report from the Daily Mail has now shared how close Moyes came to becoming Leicester boss this month.

It is claimed Moyes was approached by the relegation-threatened side after Cooper was let go but they instead opted to go with Van Nistelrooy.

However, Leicester fans could still see the 61-year-old in the near future as he is open to returning to work and is now likely to be in the running for multiple jobs in the Premier League that could pop up in the coming weeks if another manager is sacked.

Should Leicester City have appointed David Moyes over Ruud van Nistelrooy

After he was first linked to the job, Emile Heskey expressed doubts over Van Nistelrooy amid his lack of experience.

The Dutchman only took charge of a few games at Manchester United, with the bulk of his time as a manager coming in one season with PSV Eindhoven.

Van Nistelrooy did win two cups in his one campaign in the Netherlands but Moyes is a much more experienced manager.

He has been in Premier League relegation scraps before so knows exactly what to expect and has a few trophies of his own – winning the Europa Conference League with West Ham in 2023.
